Street Photo Walk.

Any camera. Or just your phone.

Pankstrasse to Gesundbrunnen. Fifteen minutes on foot, if you don't stop. We'll stop. At the counter where the bread is baked nonstop and the smell stays on your jacket for the rest of the day. Next to the guy pushing a speaker on a metal cart, playing DJ Bobo loud enough to lift your hat. Outside a small café where the americano tastes like someone cares.

None of it is waiting to be photographed. That's why it works.

I give you one simple rule and mostly stay out of your way. At the end we sit down with coffee, lay out your pictures and look at what you saw.

What you'll learn

Looking

Most of photography happens before you lift the camera.

Every walk has one rule. You find out what it is when we start. It sounds small. Then you start seeing things you walked past for years.

Playing

One picture can hold a whole story. Put another one next to it, and the story changes. At the end we lay yours out and see what they say.

Telling

The story is already in you.

There's a man near the Lidl on Pankstrasse who is always there. We never really talk, my German is still growing. But I know that he knows I see him. And I hope he knows that I know he sees me.

That's most of what photography is for me. Seeing someone, and letting them see you back. You don't need to go far for it. You need to stay a little longer where you already are.

About

I'm Michał.

I've been taking pictures for seventeen years, and I still get excited about the same small things. Steam over a bakery counter. A man waiting for the bus with his eyes closed. Light that stays for ten seconds and then it's gone.

On these walks I'll show you the few rules that really matter. Light. Timing. Where to stand. Then I'll show you when to forget them.

Your camera doesn't matter much. Settings are just a way to get closer to the picture you already see in your head. Mistakes are welcome. Most of my best frames started as one.

I'm not here to give you my eye. I'm here to help you trust yours.
